Despite a climate that supports the production of virtually any wine grape and wine style, perhaps no other single variety has captured the imagination of South Africa’s winemakers as much as Chenin Blanc. The country’s signature white wine variety, its history dates back to the 17th century, and ever since then, South African winemakers have worked tirelessly to promote this delicious wine, which affords them the pleasure to produce world-class wine in a mind-blowing diversity of styles. With Shadow Dance, we offer you the classic expression of Chenin Blanc – aromatic, crisp and fresh, reflecting the care with which this noble variety is treated in the cellar.
Shadow Dance expresses the fruity, elegant, minerally side of South African Chenin Blanc, with a lifted, soaring aroma that recalls tree fruit and ginger spice. On the palate, Shadow Dance is streamlined and direct, with a beam of green apple, pear and verbena notes that glide to a crisp, fresh, mineral finish.
It’s amazing to think that Chenin Blanc has been produced in South Africa since Bordeaux was still a swampy backwater, since California was an unknown wild region hardly found on any map, and Chianti was regarded as a white wine!  Today, Chenin Blanc is South Africa’s most widely planted grape variety, and the cornerstone of the country’s wine industry.
South Africa’s Western Cape wine region is a beautiful area of mountainous outcroppings and isolated valleys situated within close proximity to the cooling influence of Atlantic Ocean breezes. Shadow Dance Chenin Blanc is typical of the region's style, incredible quality and very agreeable price point. It pairs well with virtually any cuisine, and makes a wonderful substitute for the curious wine drinker looking to expand their horizons from better-known varieties such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
With Shadow Dance, we utilize state-of-the-art temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for both fermentation and aging. We truly believe that careful control of these critical processes is the best way to allow Chenin Blanc’s true fruit expression to emerge, and a careful, clean bottling ensures that every bottle speaks to the purity of fruit that we aim to capture.
