Ok, while not exactly on the short list of the world’s most famous red wines, Bulgarian Merlot certainly deserves to be better known. And why not? Bulgaria lies on the same latitude as Italy and Spain and is blessed with a combination of continental and Mediterranean climatic influences, making it perfectly situated for red wine production. Merlot is a regional specialty, and the Bulgarian versions are extraordinary – high quality, flavor-forward, stylish wines carefully crafted to meet the exacting standards of the international marketplace.
WINE PROFILE
A wine with great presence, 12 Generations Merlot announces its arrival with a plush, red velvet carpet and fanfare of red fruited notes, played in perfect time and harmony. Plum, cherry and clove flavors hover, almost weightlessly, over a sleek frame of fine tannins, with plenty of acidity to keep everything tasting fresh – a soft, polished take on Merlot.
BULGARIA CODE
Not too many wine consumers are aware of the exciting, dynamic nature of the modern Bulgarian wine industry. 12 Generations is your opportunity to crack the code, to open the door to one of the most forward thinking, quality driven wine regions on Earth. A changing of generation at the helm of some of the country’s most important wineries have put young winemakers in charge, many of whom have trained internationally, and the changes that they have brought back to their native land are paying dividends in a major way, in terms of the quality of Bulgarian wine today.
The warm, gently cascading hillsides of the Danube Plain are some of the most coveted lands in all of Bulgaria for the cultivation of Merlot. Longtime advent calendar fans know that we’ve been enamored with the wines from this Eastern European country for many years, and we continue to be impressed by Bulgaria’s ability to consistently produce fleshy, intense and concentrated wines perfectly suited for the modern palate.
WINEMAKING PROCESS
12 Generations Merlot is made in a state-of-the-art facility located adjacent to the vineyards from where the wine is sourced. This ensures that grapes are processed immediately after harvest, preserving freshness and vitality. 12 Generations is aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak prior to bottling.
